The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball camp season started Sunday, January 16 and nearly 60 youth players showcased their skills in the first session of the hitting and defense camp.
The numbers that registered surprised me. It goes to show that South Dakota youth players are serious about baseball, and that we are filling a need of the community. The players ranged from grades 7-12. The hitting and defense camps run five weeks on Sundays in January and February. It isn't too late to register your son or daughter for the camp. The price of $50 for all five sessions take into account missed sessions. It is as economical camp as you'll ever find.
The one-day pitching camp is set for this Saturday, January 22 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The camp is also open to students in grades 7-12. This camp will focus on all aspects of pitching including throwing progression, warm-up, strength & conditioning, bullpens and video analysis. This is a must for any student enthusiastic about the art of pitching. The price is $25 and includes a t-shirt.
Finally, our elementary camp is set for Saturday, February 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp will focus on the basics of baseball in a fun and relaxed environment. Each camp will get a t-shirt, snacks and other items. The camp's fee is $30.
DWU players and coaches will be on hand at all the camps. We, as a program, feel a need to give back to the community some of the knowledge and expertise we have learned throughout the years. The camps are a win-win opportunity for all involved.
